Heavy bolter has paint

I clearly need the practice and more patience. Also I am not happy with my basing yet - but it will do for now. Today I finished up the Heavy Bolter marine and now have 4 of the Gaping Maw somewhat complete.

New lamp, one painted Marine.

I bought a new lamp/magnifying glass today to help my aging eyes (even though my eyes are still fatigued after painting all day) and tested it out on Sgt. Zwar, the first real painting I have done in years.

My new lamp..

More musings on the Ugarit 40k (the Future/Past)

UGARITIC LEGIONS
The legions of Ugarit are large bodies of warriors composed of hundreds of warbands, the overall leader of the legions is the  Sadsar (army chief). The Sadsar is one of the god-like beings created by Ilu (the god-king of the Ugarit Empire). Each legion is different, and there is little uniformity, either in size or tactics.

SADSARS OF ILU LEGION NAME
Anat (Mother of Fury) Sons of Wrath
Baal (Bull of the Heavens) Storm Bulls
Dagon (Wolf of the Wild) Wolf Sons
Eshmun (Host of Serpents) Serpent Fangs
Kothar (Master of the Forge) Golden Hammers
Moloch (Eater of Worlds) Gaping Maw
Mot (Angel of Death) Skulls of Death
Yam (Lord of Terror) Eyes of Terror

The legions are responsible for their own patrol areas within the systems of the Ugarit Empire. Unfortunately for Ilu, the Sadsars often squabble over overlapping territories and sometimes raids and skirmishes between brother legions are unavoidable. These clashes never escalate to a full scale war. The Sadsars know better than to bring the wrath of Ilu upon themselves and always seek his favor.

UGARITIC WARBANDS

A typical warband consists of between 10 to 40 warriors and are lead by a Resar (chief). In game terms, a warband consists of 750 points worth of models (and war gear), this should field a unit consistent with a typcial warband.

As you can see from above, I have gone back to the sacred number of 8 for the children of Ilu, and have added Kothar to the mix. Also, I have worked out names for the other armies in my galaxy of man:
  • The Aegyptian Confederation (humans, but using Eldar for models on the battlefield).
  • The Orkish Hordes of Lagash (orks, naturally).
  • The Mycenaean Legions (more humans, using grey knights for their forces and maybe some normal space marines as well - got some cheap grey knight models on ebay the other day).
Below we see a child being offered up to a representative of Moloch for recruitment into the Gaping Maw Legion.

Test cases (Sons of Moloch)

I received my Army Painter Skeleton Bone primer today, and decided to try a couple of test cases for my Sons of Moloch Warband. I am going with the base of skeleton bone with white over that base coat to see what kind of effect I get.

So here are the before and after shots of my test subjects. (I should mention my naming is being done by taking words from Aramaic and tweaking them a bit).

#1 Sergeant Zwar (means "to deliver a blow, hit"

#2 Veteran Warrior Babta (means "pupil of the eye")

I will let them sit over night before I start painting tomorrow, I also have a jar full of models soaking in simple green that should be ready for the brush tomorrow. I have a lot of work ahead of me for this project, but I am enjoying it very much.

Sons of Moloch

I am working on my own version of the Galaxy of Man, trying to get away from canon 40k. My galaxy is fought over by various kingdoms of star systems (based on ancient cultures). The main system is UGARIT, home to the Most Holy Ilu - King of Ugarit and the nearby systems.

ILU is a god-like being ruling with an iron fist from his home, he has created 7 divine beings to rule his legions. They are:

Moloch (The Eater of worlds)
Anat (The Mother of fury)
Dagon (The Wolf of the wilderness)
Mot (The Angel of death)
Yam (The Lord of terror)
Baal (The Bull of the heavens)
Ehsmun (The Host of serpents)

Each will have their own army lists eventually, but first I am working on The Sons of Moloch (Eater of Worlds). Obviously I am sticking with the blue/white colors of the World Eaters, but the army list will be a mash up of various 2nd edition lists.

Yesterday I spent most of the evening putting together some chaos marines, and normal marines. My army will have models from both (the chaos marines will represent Veteran squads, hence the more decorated armor).

The Eld are now being re-branded for my Egyptian equivalent that I am working on in tandem. I will post more on them after soon.
